The Barge we didn't NEED to go on!

After Renmark we were on our way to Burra but stopped off at Morgan.  My husband said we have to get on the Barge and go across the Murray River (there isn't a bridge).  We have done this before at the same places years ago.
By going across on the Barge we ended up going the wrong way to Burra, well it didn't really matter, we went a very long way for a short cut.  The GPS was helpful at times, this time it kept wanting to send us on dead end roads, or where there wasn't a road.  Thank goodness we didn't take any notice of it as we would have just gone around in circles :)

Morgan has a populations of just under 400 people.

Getting ready to go across the river.

The first roadside parking rest area that I can recall.

After we found our way to Burra, this is some of the scenery.

  6. Still it is good fun going across the river on a ferry isn't it? and I don't suppose you were in a great hurry. Like your new avatar Margaret.

  7. The countryside looks quite green. I don't use gps very often as I rarely go to areas I don't know but when I do, I am surprised how fallible they are and we've had two portable car sat navs and now a built in unit. I would never rely on them alone, especially in the outback.

    1. I thought it was excellent when we had our first GPS several years ago, we didn't get lost either, but we were on the east coast. They are a guide only in my opinion after the experiences we have had over the years...

  9. Beautiful countryside Margaret and fabulous photography!
The terrain at the rest stop looks very different to the subsequent photos - what it in the same vicinity?

The rest stop was different terrain, after Morgan and before the green paddocks on the way to Burra...:)

    1. When travelling especially, the light can't be right all the time...but I was lucky with these shots.

  11. Ahh... these photos are making me miss home. The haze in this region is toxic at the moment - we're all cooped up indoors trying not to breathe.
