A trip to Airlie Beach, Queensland

Last winter whilst staying in Bowen we took a day trip to Airlie Beach to look around.
The beach is rather small the shops were very busy selling touristy items, of course at a high price.
View from the few hills is lovely looking over the sea and it's a popular place to live with approx. 7, 900 people swelling of course in the winter time.

Just on from the town Airlie Beach is the place where you can catch a ferry to the Whitsunday Islands which are resorts and apparently very nice.

There's a large parking area on a hill further up the road where one can catch the ferry to the Islands.

    1. It's not bad, but not my favourite, then I don't have a favourite place other than home.

    1. I think every house has a view when you drive in the area where they are.

  4. Even the ferry docking areas are pretty!
I love the homes on the hill, all looking over the ocean.
Little boxes on the hillside...and they all look just the same. Remember that song?

  6. What memories your photos are bringing back. In my younger years I worked on Daydream Island and Airlie beach was the closest town on the mainland.

  7. It is really pretty. I suspect the 'year rounders' get a bit sick of winter visitors though.

    1. I should imagine so, but the winter people keep the town going.

    1. Amazing how one can always find something similar to where they live or the country they live in - it's good really.

  9. Great spot - Airlie Beach.
I suspect many of those hill apartments are holiday rentals on an all year
long basis - one holiday group in after another. I bet the place is full of rental offices????
Had a wonderful holiday there at South Molle in the 90's.
    Cheers

    1. Gets a bit crowded in winter these days Colin. Streets are bustling with tourists. Hard to get parked, the local must get annoyed in the busy season.
Yes, I expect they are holiday rentals with a view.

  10. What a wonderful view. Small wonder the houses are perched on the hill.

  11. Another spot I visited often. A friend used to be the front office manager at the Coral Sea Resort...and her guy was the commodore at the Airlie Beach Yacht Club aka Whitsunday Sailing Club.

I've had some good, fun times at Airlie Beach...and quite a few Margaritas, too! :)

Shute Harbour is the take off point to most of the surrounding islands.

The area all around there copped a bashing from Cyclone Debbie. She showed no mercy, unfortunately.

  13. Lovely to find your blog and enjoy your photos from your part of the world! So different from ours in Northern Ireland!
The coast and resorts there are quite exotic looking to me!
    Looking forward to following!
